The Deal – Review

img_6569-updatedA few days ago I finished The Deal by Elle Kennedy for the second time and I loved it just as much as the first time. This New Adult novel is light, sexy, fun and so much more.

The first book in the Off-Campus series follows Briar University students Garrett Graham and Hannah Wells. Garrett and Hannah couldn’t be any more different: he is the captain and star of the University’s ice hockey team; Hannah is a Music major and her only focus is winning the winter performance. The only thing these two have in common is Ethics class, which Hannah aced and Garrett failed. Garrett finds out and so he tries to convince Hannah to tutor him. After endless attempts on Garrett’s side, Hannah finally budges, but only under one condition: Garrett has to take her on a pretend date so she can finally make her secret crush notice her. But neither Garrett nor Hannah expected their hearts to be a part of this shared deal.

Hannah is a great and strong character. She is full of sarcasm; she is kind, tough and super ambitious. Although Hannah has dealt with some really shitty things in her past, she won’t let it define her future. Garrett on the other hand is a cocky and arrogant hockey player – a player in more than one way, mind you! But behind his cocky exterior lies a soft and kind interior and an even more caring heart. Garrett is also a great friend and has hands down the hottest and funniest friends ever.

Yes, this book has most characteristics of a New Adult novel: hot hockey players, abs ;), troubled pasts, hook-ups and the struggling female heroine. But this novel is anything but the usual insta-love kinda thing. Both Hannah and Garrett don’t like each other very much in the beginning and the only reason they become friends and hang out in the first place is because the deal Hannah and Garrett agreed on. And let me tell you, this is SO refreshing! Don’t get me wrong, I like to read about the insta-love thing – but only to a certain point! Sometimes it’s not just really believable, you know? But Hannah and Garrett’s relationship grows slowly and steady and it was so great to watch them. ❤

Sometimes people sneak up on you and suddenly you don’t know how you ever lived without them.

new-coverOn September 26th, Elle Kennedy published book 4 in the Off-Campus series and decided to change the covers of the books altogether. The abs cover you see at the beginning of this review is not available in paperback anymore. The ebook version however still has the abs version. So don’t be surprised when you order The Deal as paperback: same book, different cover.

Happy Reading,
♥ Sabrina
